1986 Statue of Liberty Half Dollar Gold Layered

The Statue of Liberty Half Dollar was struck by the U.S. Mint in 1986. The coin was issued to commemorate the statue's 100th anniversary. The obverse shows the Statue of Liberty. The reverse features an immigrant family arriving in New York.

This was a limited edition coin made only in 1986, over 30 years ago. This coin has been enhanced with a 24k gold overlay 

The Statue of Liberty was designed by Frederic Auguste Bartholdi. It was given to the United States as a gift from the people of France to celebrate American liberty and freedom. The framework of the statue was built by Gustave Eiffel, who also built the Eiffel Tower in Paris. The statue was dedicated by President Grover Cleveland on October 28, 1886. Today, the Statue of Liberty is the world's greatest symbol of freedom.
