Thomas Jefferson was one of America's Founding Fathers. As President he secured the Louisiana Purchase and commissioned the Lewis & Clark Expedition. He drafted the Declaration of Independence in 1776 and was third President of the United States from 1801-1809. The Jefferson Nickel was first struck in 1938 to honor Thomas Jefferson. This collection is a tribute to Jefferson on genuine U.S. coins and currency. This was the first and only silver Nickel in history. The 1942-1945 Jefferson Nickel was struck in .350 silver to save nickel for the World War II effort. The 2004 and 2005 coins were part of the Westward Journey series of commemorative Nickels honoring the 200th anniversary of the Lewis and Clark Expedition. The 2004-2006 Jefferson Nickels feature three different portraits of Jefferson.The 2007 Jefferson Presidential Dollar was a limited edition coin minted for only a few weeks in 2007. The 2006 coin was the first in the new series of regular Jefferson Nickels.The back shows Jefferson at the signing of the Declaration of Independence. The rarely-seen $2 bill features a portrait of Jefferson on the front. The collection comes in a display wallet with a Certificate of Authenticity.
