Over 100 years ago at the turn of the 20th century, the Barber coins were America’s standard coins. Today, these beautiful silver coins are cherished as genuine pieces of our nation’s history. This collection brings together three Barber silver coins struck at the historic U.S. Mint in New Orleans. The coins are the Barber Silver Dime, Barber Silver Quarter, and Barber Silver Half Dollar. Each coin was struck in the beauty of .900 silver and all three coins were designed by Charles E. Barber, who was Chief Engraver of the U.S. Mint. Barber was one of the most famous and prolific coin designers in United States Mint history. The Barber series of coins began in 1892. The New Orleans Mint closed in 1906, so each coin is over 100 years old and few people even know that the New Orleans Mint ever existed. All three Barber silver coins in this collection feature similar obverse designs. The obverse shows Liberty with a triple headdress of cap, laurel wreath, and a tiny coronet inscribed “Liberty.” The Quarter and Half Dollar also have 13 stars to symbolize the original 13 states. The reverse of the Dime has a wreath and the denomination. The reverse of the Quarter and Half Dollar show a heraldic eagle. The famous “O” mint mark of the New Orleans Mint is under the wreath on the Dime; it is under the eagle’s tail on the other two coins. Most coins were worn or damaged in circulation, and millions have been melted over the years for the silver. Each coin in this collection is in hand-selected Good or better condition. The coins come in a custom display case with a Certificate of Authenticity.
