Since the Jefferson Nickel was introduced in 1938, there have been seven different types of this coin. This collection features all seven types for a historic and complete type set. The first coin is an original 1938-2003 Jefferson Nickel. Second is a 1942-1945 35% silver “emergency” coin that was made in World War II and was the only Nickel ever made in silver. The next four coins are from the 2004-2005 commemorative Nickel series. Each of the four commemorative Nickels features a different design to honor the 200th anniversary of the Louisiana Purchase and the Lewis and Clark Expedition. These were the first-ever commemorative Nickels in history. The 2004-2005 commemorative Nickels were issued for a limited time. All six of these Nickels from 1938-2006 is now out of issue and can never be made again. The 1939 to 2004 Nickels all feature the same portrait of Thomas Jefferson on the obverse. The 2005 Nickel has a new portrait. The final coin is the 2006 Jefferson Nickel with another new portrait of Jefferson on the obverse and the original image of Monticello (Jefferson’s home) on the reverse. The complete set is protected in a custom panel and is presented in a special coin wallet with a Certificate of Authenticity.
