Hot Springs National Park First Day Cover 1
Hot Springs National Park First Day Cover
The coin is the first in the America the Beautiful Quarters collection that was introduced by the U.S. Mint in 2010. No specific mint mark is promised. A National Park or other national site in each state, territory, and the District of Columbia will be honored on a unique coin in the America the Beautiful Quarters collection. Five coins will be issued each year, staring in 2010, and the coins will be issued in the order in which the National Parks were established. The first coin was issued for Hot Springs National Park in Arkansas. It was released in early 2010. As the first coin in the series, it will be the most sought-after and a key to the collection. The U.S. postage stamp features the Arkansas state flag; it was issued June 14, 2008. The coin is in Brilliant Uncirculated condition and is encapsulated within the First Day Cover. The stamp on the Cover is cancelled with the official U.S. Postal Service postmark that includes the date of the coin's first day of issue. Only a limited number of First Day Covers were created. They can never be made again because of the 'First Day of Issue' postmark, which certifies each Cover as a genuine limited edition. The coin features a fountain near the Hot Springs National Park's administrative building. The area that is now Hot Springs National Park was set aside by President Andrew Jackson in 1832, making it the oldest park in the National Parks system. It became a National Park on March 4, 1921. Several luxurious bathhouses were built to accommodate visitors at the Park, and thermal water from the 47 hot springs is used for both bathing and drinking. The Park covers 5,550 acres, including part of the city of Hot Springs, making it the smallest National Park.
