President John F. Kennedy was assassinated in Dallas, Texas, on November 22, 1963. This collection of official U.S. government tributes to Kennedy is being released to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the tragic assassination.
The Kennedy Half Dollar was first issued in 1964 to honor Kennedy. The coin in this collection is beautifully colorized with the red-white-and-blue American flag in the background. The colorized coin is a limited edition that is being created exclusively for this collection. It is privately colorized and remains U.S. legal tender; it is not available from the U.S. Mint but only in this special collection. The first stamp is the Kennedy Memorial issue that was released on May 29, 1964 – the first anniversary of Kennedy’s birth following his death. It features a portrait of Kennedy and the eternal flame that burns at his grave in Arlington National Cemetery. The second stamp was issued on May 29, 1967 – the precise 50th anniversary of Kennedy’s birth.
The collection comes in a coin wallet with a narrative about Kennedy.
