The Jefferson nickel debuted in 1938, replacing the Buffalo nickel in the 25th year of its production run. The coin was designed to commemorate the Founding Father and third President of the United States Thomas Jefferson.
“Full Steps (FS)” is a grading designation used for circulation strike Jefferson Nickels which have at least five full steps visible at the base of Monticello on the reverse. Broadly speaking, the designation is used to identify coins which have been fully struck. In order to receive the designation, there must be no disturbance of the steps due to strike weakness, contact marks, or planchet problems.
