First minted in early 1964, the Kennedy Half Dollar was produced just weeks after the assassination of President John F. Kennedy. His portrait on the obverse was personally approved by his widow Jacqueline Kennedy. The reverse depicts the Seal of the President of the United States.
Since 1964, the Kennedy Half Dollar has been minted for circulation at both the Philadelphia and Denver Mints, although not at both Mints in every year. No Kennedy Half Dollars were made in 1975.
