This legal tender Australian Silver Dollar was struck by the world famous artisans at the Perth Mint. The Kookaburra series was introduced in 1990 and is one of the most popular and collectible silver issues in the world. This coin was struck on a 1 oz. .999 fine silver planchet .The Perth Mint has issued a strict mintage cap of 50,000 coins, which limits the amount of these coins in circulation. As a comparison, the regular 1 oz Silver Kookaburra has a mintage of 500,000 units, and other bullion coins such as the Silver Maple and Silver Eagle have mintages in the tens of millions each year
The reverse of the coin changes with every year in the series. This year's image features two Kookaburra birds, the famous Australian kingfishers, sitting on a fence. There is an adult bird and a juvenile. Above the head of the younger bird appears a Great White shark privy in a circle. The Great White is also a well-known Australian animal. The obverse image features the familiar effigy of Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II that was designed by Ian Rank-Broadley.
